editorial fashion photographyEditorial fashion photography uses fashion to illustrate a story either as a single powerful image or as a series. Whereas lifestyle fashion presents a story that the viewer is expected to self-identify with, editorial fashion is intended to express a fantasy. Like theatre, editorial fashion is intended to reflect back upon society. The story can take on any subject through theatrical methods including period clothing, unusual lighting, exotic sets, bizarre makeup, and body language. This fashion editorial deals with gender identity issues and emotions. The series begins with a man and woman sitting together on a dark set. Soon a masculine woman enters the scene in a power role to interact with the other woman. Attraction draws the two women together symbolized by a key necklace and their roles reverse as their intimacy grows. The series is shot in black and white using high contrast film noir lighting to increase the drama of the set. Another editorial depicts the transformation of two women from their day-job attire to vixens of the night as they seduce a young man. [ view ] |
