storytelling: visual-verbal content

Communication is an art as much as it is a science. Although we consume messages with all of our senses, we are most in tune with images (visual) and words (verbal). Images are instantaneously interpreted and given meaning based on our cultural framework. Images communicate messages with their powerful ability to capture the attention and leave a lasting impression. They are emotional and appeal to our primative instincts. Words bring clarity and intention to the message. Effective storytelling uses visual-verbal content to be rich in emotional content as well as crisply logical.

Visual-verbal content serves many needs from news stories (photojournalism) to advertising and corporate communication. Sometimes a single image is all it takes to tell a story. Other stories may involve several images or even a series of images. Sam Dobrow effectively handles storytelling assignments with photography, written content or both.
